Season Recap

The Good Counsel Varsity Boys’ Basketball team had a strong season finishing 3rd in the WCAC, with an overall record of 17-12. The Falcons began the exciting season by winning eight of their first ten games. Besides performing well in the always ultra competitive WCAC, the team had very strong performances in the Mid-Atlantic Invitational and the Stop DWI Holiday Classic in Binghamton, NY.

The highlights of the season for the Falcons were being ranked as high as # 5 in the Washington Post, # 1 in The Gazzette, and winning their January 29th match-up with Bishop O’Connell and University of North Carolina recruit Kendall Marshall at American University on Comcast Sportsnet television.

Leading the team were seniors Ben Hazel and Rodney Glasgow. Hazel and Glasgow averaged 16 and 14 points per game respectively and were both named to The Captial Classic preliminary game. Hazel was selected 1st Team All-WCAC and Gazette Honorable Mention, while Glasgow was selected to play in the Buffalo Wild Wings Roundball Classic in Hagerstown, MD. He also received several post season accolades, including being named 2nd Team All-WCAC and 1st Team All-Gazette.

Fellow seniors Devon Wright-Nelson, Jemel Sessoms, and Julian Harrell were selected to represent Good Counsel in the VOLI Sports Montgomery County Private/Public All-Star game. All three made big plays that helped the Private All-Stars capture the win. Leading the way was Devon Wright-Nelson whose 17 points earned him MVP honors. Wright- Nelson was named 3rd Team All-WCAC for his efforts for the Falcons this season. Sessom and Harrell , along with fellow senior Sean Wright were named All-WCAC Honorable Mention.

All 7 of the Falcons’ seniors will go on to play sports at 4 year colleges and universities. They include: Rodney Glasow: Virginia Military Institute

Ben Hazel: Princeton University

Julian Harrell: Bowie State University

Jemel Sessoms: Robert Morris University (Track)

Pat Townsend: St. Joseph’s University (Lacrosse)

Sean Wright: Providence College (Lacrosse)

Devon Wright-Nelson: Augusta State University
